How many times did Roger Federer win the Swiss Indoors Basel tournament?

The story behind the answer

Roger Federer won the Swiss Indoors Basel tournament 10 times. The Basel native captured his hometown title in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019.

His first victory came during his dominant mid-2000s period, and he later returned to win three consecutive titles from 2017 through 2019. The 2019 final was especially memorable: Federer defeated Alex de Minaur 6–2, 6–2 to claim his tenth Basel championship.

Federer’s record is even more impressive because he reached the Swiss Indoors final 15 times, including 10 consecutive finals from 2006 through 2015. He also holds the tournament record for most match wins, with 75. The event is played indoors at St. Jakobshalle in Basel, where it has been held annually since 1995.

A common mix-up is confusing Federer’s Basel record with his success at the Halle Open. He also won Halle 10 times, but that tournament is played on grass in Germany. Federer is therefore the first player to win 10 titles at two different ATP tournaments played on different surfaces.
