Roger Federer won the Indian Wells Masters five times.
His victories came in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2012 and 2017. The first three formed a rare hat-trick of consecutive titles, making Federer the first man to win the event three years in a row.
Federer’s 2004 final win came against Tim Henman, followed by victories over Lleyton Hewitt in 2005 and James Blake in 2006. After a six-year gap, he won again in 2012 by defeating John Isner.
His fifth and final Indian Wells title came in 2017, when he beat fellow Swiss player Stan Wawrinka. The tournament is officially the BNP Paribas Open and is one of the season’s major ATP Masters 1000 events. It is played on outdoor hard courts in California, so it is sometimes confused with Federer’s separate Miami Masters victories.
