Roger Federer won the Gerry Weber Open in Halle 10 times.
His first Halle title came in 2003, launching a remarkable connection with the German grass-court tournament. Federer then won four straight editions from 2003 through 2006, added another title in 2008, and returned to dominate the event from 2013 through 2015.
His ninth title arrived in 2017, followed by his record-setting 10th championship in 2019. In the 2019 final, Federer defeated David Goffin 7–6(2), 6–1. That victory made Halle the first tournament at which he had won 10 titles.
The event has changed names over time and is now generally called the Halle Open. It is played on grass shortly before Wimbledon, making it a key Wimbledon warm-up tournament. Federer’s 10 Halle titles remain one of the clearest examples of his extraordinary success on grass.
