How many times did Pablo Picasso marry?
Answer
Two
Answer
Two
Pablo Picasso married twice.
His first marriage was to Olga Khokhlova, a Russian-Ukrainian ballerina associated with Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes. They married in 1918 after meeting through Picasso’s work on the ballet *Parade*. They had one son, Paulo, but their relationship deteriorated. Picasso began divorce proceedings in 1935, yet Olga refused to agree to a divorce, and they remained legally married until her death in 1955.
Picasso’s second marriage was to Jacqueline Roque, whom he met at the Madoura pottery workshop in Vallauris on the French Riviera. They married in 1961 and remained together until Picasso’s death in 1973.
Picasso had many important romantic relationships outside marriage, including relationships with Marie-Thérèse Walter, Dora Maar and Françoise Gilot. Those partnerships can make the number seem higher, but they were not additional marriages. Picasso fathered four children with three women, another fact sometimes confused with the number of times he wed.
