The special America250 Times Square ball-drop event is planned to include eight time zones.
Organizers announced a one-off event for July 3, 2026, designed to count down to midnight on July 4 across the United States. Unlike the traditional New Year’s Eve celebration, this event is tied to Independence Day and is planned to feature eight separate ball drops.
The arrangement reflects the broad geographic reach of the United States and its multiple time zones. Repeating the drop allows audiences in different parts of the country to experience the transition into the anniversary date at local midnight.
This event should not be confused with the regular New Year’s Eve ball drop, which takes place once in Times Square at midnight in the Eastern Time Zone. The America250 plan is unusual precisely because it repeats the drop for a national holiday.
