How many tiers does each competitive rank (except Radiant) have?

The story behind the answer

Each competitive rank in VALORANT, except Radiant, has three tiers.

The tiered ranks run from Iron through Immortal, with each divided into levels such as Iron 1, Iron 2, and Iron 3. Radiant is the exception: it is a single elite rank rather than a rank with numbered subdivisions. Ascendant, introduced in 2022, follows the same three-tier structure.

VALORANT’s competitive ladder is designed to show progression in relatively small steps. Players earn or lose Rank Rating through competitive matches, and crossing the required thresholds moves them between tiers and then into the next rank. This is why “Diamond 3” and “Ascendant 1,” for example, represent adjacent stages of advancement rather than separate ranking systems.

A common mix-up is assuming Radiant has three tiers because Immortal and Radiant are both associated with regional leaderboards. Radiant is instead reserved for the highest-ranked players in a region, while the exact number who reach it depends on the region’s leaderboard rules. Radiant’s special status is what makes the answer three rather than four or five.
