How many Super Bowls did Chuck Noll win as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers?

The story behind the answer

Chuck Noll won four Super Bowls as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Noll’s championships came in Super Bowls IX, X, XIII and XIV, covering the 1974, 1975, 1978 and 1979 seasons. Pittsburgh defeated Minnesota, Dallas, Dallas again and the Los Angeles Rams. The victories made the Steelers the first NFL team to win four Super Bowls.

Noll coached Pittsburgh from 1969 through 1991. His early teams struggled, but a remarkable run of draft selections—including Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, Lynn Swann, John Stallworth, Jack Lambert and “Mean” Joe Greene—built the core of a dynasty. The defense became known as the “Steel Curtain.”

A common mix-up is confusing Noll’s four titles with the Steelers’ total franchise championships, which later increased under other coaches. Noll remains tied with several coaches for four Super Bowl victories, but he was the first to reach that mark and did it within six seasons.
