Dayenu has 15 stanzas.
The Passover song is built as a chain of gratitude: each stanza names a divine gift and ends with “dayenu,” meaning “it would have been enough.” The gifts move through liberation, miracles, and closeness to God.
The first five stanzas describe stages of leaving slavery, including the Exodus from Egypt, judgments against Egypt, the firstborn plague, receiving Egyptian wealth, and the splitting of the sea. The next five focus on miracles such as crossing on dry land, the drowning of the oppressors, provision in the desert, manna, and Shabbat. The final five concern Mount Sinai, the Torah, the Land of Israel, and the Temple.
A common mix-up is counting the repeated refrain as extra verses. The refrain follows each stanza but is not an additional stanza, so the standard count remains 15.
