Metallica’s self-titled 1991 album, The Black Album, contains 12 standard tracks.
The sequence opens with “Enter Sandman” and closes with “The Struggle Within.” Between them are songs including “Sad but True,” “Holier Than Thou,” “The Unforgiven,” “Wherever I May Roam,” “Nothing Else Matters,” and “Of Wolf and Man.”
The album’s standard running order was issued across four sides on the original vinyl format, with three tracks on each side. Later editions and regional releases could include additional material, so the standard-album count is the clearest way to distinguish the core record from bonus tracks and anniversary packages.
The 2021 expanded editions greatly increased the amount of related material, adding demos, live performances, rough mixes, and the companion covers album The Metallica Blacklist. Those extras do not change the 12-track count of the original standard album.
