The USPS 1976 pane honoring the U.S. state flags contained 50 stamps.
Issued on February 23, 1976, the pane presented one stamp for each U.S. state. Every stamp included the state flag along with the Bicentennial logo and the words “Bicentennial Era 1776–1976.” It was part of the extensive Bicentennial Series of commemorative and related postal issues.
The number 50 reflects the number of states, not the number of years commemorated. The pane is also distinct from other Bicentennial stamp releases, such as the four-stamp issues depicting Revolutionary War uniforms and historical paintings. Collectors may encounter individual state stamps separated from the original pane.
