Five special quarter designs were authorized for America250 coinage.
The Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020 called for a series of five quarter designs connected with the United States semiquincentennial. The program was part of a broader authorization for special 2026 coinage celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary.
The five-quarter provision is separate from the ordinary annual quarter program and from the American Women Quarters Program. It also does not mean that only five coins will exist across all denominations. The semiquincentennial coinage plan includes special treatment involving cents, nickels, a dime, half dollar, and dollar, with some denominations retaining current-series designs. The quarter series is especially notable because one design was specified to depict women’s contributions to independence.
