The U.S. Mint is issuing five special quarter designs in 2026 for America’s 250th anniversary.
The designs belong to the United States Semiquincentennial coin program. They commemorate the Mayflower Compact, the American Revolutionary War, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States, and the Gettysburg Address.
These are temporary 2026 designs rather than a permanent replacement for the Washington quarter. The program was authorized by the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020, which allowed special circulating designs connected with the semiquincentennial.
Collectors and quiz players may confuse these five quarters with the America the Beautiful program or the American Women Quarters program. Those programs used different themes and schedules. The five 2026 quarters specifically connect major people, documents, and episodes with the nation’s 250-year story.
