The original studio edition of Metallica’s 1991 album contains 12 songs.
The sequence begins with “Enter Sandman” and ends with “The Struggle Within.” Between them are major singles such as “The Unforgiven,” “Nothing Else Matters,” “Wherever I May Roam,” and “Sad but True,” along with album tracks including “Holier Than Thou” and “Through the Never.”
The number refers only to the standard original album, not later expanded editions. The 2021 anniversary box set added live recordings, demos, rough mixes, interviews, and other material, so its total track count is much larger.
On the original vinyl configuration, the twelve tracks were divided across four sides, with three tracks on each side. That arrangement differs from the continuous sequence most listeners know from the compact disc and digital editions.
