Brooklyn Nine-Nine was produced for eight seasons.
The sitcom premiered on Fox in September 2013 and followed the detectives and staff of the fictional 99th Precinct in Brooklyn. Its eighth season was also its final season, so the complete run totals eight seasons rather than seven or nine. The finale aired on September 16, 2021.
The series changed networks during that run. Fox canceled Brooklyn Nine-Nine after its fifth season in 2018, but NBC quickly picked it up for a sixth season. NBC then continued airing the series through its final two seasons. That network switch can cause confusion when viewers count seasons by platform or remember the cancellation announcement.
Season 8 was shorter than most earlier seasons, consisting of ten episodes. Production plans were also reconsidered after the 2020 murder of George Floyd and the resulting public debate about policing, leading the creative team to rework the season’s stories. The show therefore ended with eight completed seasons, spanning 2013 to 2021.
