The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air had six seasons. The NBC sitcom premiered on September 10, 1990, and ended on May 20, 1996, completing a six-season story about a street-smart teenager adjusting to life with his wealthy relatives in Bel-Air.
Across those seasons, the series produced 148 episodes. Will Smith played a fictionalized version of himself, while James Avery, Janet Hubert and Daphne Maxwell Reid, Alfonso Ribeiro, Karyn Parsons, Tatyana Ali, Joseph Marcell, and Ross Bagley formed the Banks household and its extended family.
The show was not an eight- or seven-season series, although its long-lasting popularity can make its run seem longer. Its six seasons covered Will's transition from a teenager from West Philadelphia into a more mature young adult while maintaining the show's mix of family comedy, class conflict, and serious social themes.
After the original sitcom ended, the franchise continued through reunions, streaming availability, and the dramatic reboot Bel-Air. That later series is a separate production and does not add seasons to the original show's total.
