Hugh Laurie received no Primetime Emmy Awards for playing House M.D.’s title character.
Laurie was nominated several times for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his performance as Dr. Gregory House, but he did not win the category. His nominations recognized the character’s abrasive humor, medical brilliance, and emotional complexity.
The lack of an acting Emmy is sometimes confused with the show’s other awards. House M.D. received Emmy recognition in categories including writing, and Laurie won major honors from other organizations during the series’ run.
Laurie’s performance was nevertheless central to the program’s international success. He also received Golden Globe Awards for playing House, which may contribute to the mistaken belief that he won the corresponding Primetime Emmy.
