How many premier class race wins did Casey Stoner have?

The story behind the answer

Casey Stoner had 38 premier-class race wins.

Stoner’s 38 victories came in the 500cc/MotoGP premier class between 2006 and 2012. He won his first premier-class race at the 2007 Qatar Grand Prix for Ducati, beginning a championship-winning season in which he took 10 victories and defeated Valentino Rossi to become world champion.

The Australian won 23 races for Ducati and 15 for Honda. His second premier-class title came with Honda in 2011, when he won 10 races, including his home Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island. That season also demonstrated his speed over one lap: he collected 12 pole positions, a record for the 2011 campaign.

The number 38 refers only to premier-class wins, not his entire Grand Prix career. Stoner also won two 125cc races and five 250cc races, giving him 45 Grand Prix victories in total across the three traditional classes. His relatively short career makes the tally especially notable: he retired from full-time competition after the 2012 season at age 26.
