How many Pokémon species could Pokémon Stadium use from the original Game Boy games?

The story behind the answer

Pokémon Stadium could use all 151 Pokémon species from the original Game Boy games.

Released for the Nintendo 64, Pokémon Stadium presented turn-based Pokémon battles in 3D. Its battles centered on the original roster from Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow, letting players use Pokémon transferred from those Game Boy titles through the Transfer Pak accessory.

The game was released in Japan in 1999 and in Western regions in 2000. It included four Cups, Gym Leader Castle battles, multiplayer modes and minigames, making it more than a simple battle viewer. The Transfer Pak also allowed players to organize, store, trade and battle with compatible Pokémon.

A common confusion comes from the Japan-only predecessor Pocket Monsters Stadium, which supported only a limited selection of 40 Pokémon. The Western Pokémon Stadium expanded the playable roster to the complete original total of 151, while the later Pokémon Stadium 2 added support for the Johto-era games.
