The original Nintendo 64 version of Pokémon Snap features 63 Pokémon species.
That number is smaller than the 151 species introduced by the first-generation games because Pokémon Snap is a curated photography adventure. Its courses present selected Pokémon in forests, beaches, caves, rivers, and other environments on Pokémon Island rather than attempting to include the entire original Pokédex.
Players photograph Pokémon while moving automatically along set routes. Professor Oak evaluates the pictures, considering elements such as size, pose, and how centrally a Pokémon appears in the frame. New items and routes encourage repeated visits, allowing players to uncover additional species and photographic opportunities.
The game was released for Nintendo 64 in Japan in 1999, with North American and PAL releases following. Its limited roster is sometimes confused with the 151 species available across the original Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow games. The figure 63 applies specifically to the original Pokémon Snap.
