By the end of Generation IX, 1,025 Pokémon had been introduced.
Generation IX began with Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, released for Nintendo Switch in November 2022. Its total grew through the games and their downloadable expansion, The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, which added Pokémon through The Teal Mask, The Indigo Disk, and the Mochi Mayhem epilogue.
The Generation IX total was 120 new Pokémon, bringing the overall franchise total to 1,025. That figure counts species introduced to the core video-game series, not every alternate form, regional variant, or temporary battle transformation as a separate Pokémon.
The total can be confused with the number available in a particular game’s regional Pokédex. Scarlet and Violet’s Paldea Pokédex is much smaller than the complete National Pokédex count. The distinction matters: a game can feature only a selection of species even when the franchise-wide total is much larger.
