Japan’s original Pocket Monsters Stadium allowed 40 Pokémon to be used in battles.
Released for the Nintendo 64 on August 1, 1998, Pocket Monsters Stadium brought Pokémon battles into a 3D console environment. It connected with the Game Boy Pokémon games through the Transfer Pak bundled with the game.
The title did not include the complete original roster of 151 Pokémon for battle. Technical limitations meant that only 40 species were available, although the game was initially intended to support the full group.
This Japanese game is distinct from the internationally released Pokémon Stadium. The later title contained more content and was released outside Japan, while Pocket Monsters Stadium remained exclusive to Japan. Confusing the two versions often leads to the incorrect assumption that the first Japanese Stadium supported all 151 species.
