Five points form the serrated edge on the white stripe of Bahrain's flag. The white band occupies the hoist side, or left side when the flag is displayed normally, and meets the larger red field through a five-point zigzag boundary.
The five points are widely associated with the Five Pillars of Islam. White traditionally represents peace, while red is linked with the struggles and sacrifices of Bahrain's history. The flag's official proportion is 3:5, and its current design was adopted on 14 February 2002.
Bahrain's flag has changed over time, which explains why older references can produce different answers. The serrated edge originally had 28 points, then was reduced to eight in 1972. In 2002, it was reduced again to five, giving each point its modern symbolic association. The flag is especially easy to confuse with Qatar's: both use a white hoist-side band and a jagged division, but Qatar has nine points, a maroon field, and a much more elongated proportion.
