How many points is the first bonus item, the cherry, worth?

The story behind the answer

The first bonus item, the cherry, is worth 100 points in the original Pac-Man arcade game.

Bonus items appear beneath the ghost house after Pac-Man eats a set number of dots. The cherry is the fruit shown on the first level and is worth 100 points when Pac-Man eats it. A second cherry also appears during that first maze, so the two cherries together can add 200 points to the level’s score.

Fruit values increase as the game progresses. The strawberry follows the cherry and is worth 300 points in the original arcade version, while later items include oranges, apples, melons, Galaxian flagships, bells, and keys. Their appearance is also used as a visual level indicator at the bottom of the screen.

The cherry is sometimes confused with the strawberry because both are early bonus items and some ports change their scoring tables. In the original Namco arcade game, however, the cherry is the level-one bonus item and its value is 100 points. It is separate from regular dots, power pellets, and the ghost-eating bonuses.
