Dwyane Wade averaged 34.7 points per game in the 2006 NBA Finals.
The Miami Heat defeated the Dallas Mavericks in six games to win the franchise’s first NBA championship. Wade produced 34.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.7 steals per game, earning Finals MVP honors in just his third NBA season.
The series became famous for Wade’s scoring after Miami fell behind 2–0. He scored at least 36 points in each of the final four games, including 36 points in the decisive Game 6, a 95–92 Miami victory. Wade also repeatedly attacked the basket and drew fouls, making 97 free throws in the series.
A common mix-up is confusing Wade’s 34.7 Finals scoring average with his 28.4-point average for the entire 2006 postseason. The 34.7 figure applies only to the six-game championship series. It was also one of the highest-scoring Finals performances by a player appearing in his first NBA Finals, behind only Rick Barry’s 40.8 points per game in 1967 and Allen Iverson’s 35.6 in 2001 at that time.
