Valorant is a five-versus-five tactical shooter, so a conventional match begins with five players on the attacking side and five on defense. Each player selects an Agent with distinct abilities, making team composition and role coordination important alongside aim and weapon choice.
The five-player structure connects Valorant to classic competitive tactical shooters while giving each round a strong strategic identity. Losing one player can significantly change the available utility and defensive coverage, especially late in a round.
Some Valorant features can cause confusion. A Premier roster may contain up to seven players, allowing substitutes, but only five players participate for a team in a standard match. Custom broadcasts may also include coaches and observers, yet those extra clients are not active players.
