How many passengers did the Mayflower carry when it sailed to North America in 1620?

The story behind the answer

The Mayflower carried 102 passengers when it sailed to North America in 1620.

The English merchant ship departed Plymouth in September 1620 after an intended two-ship voyage was reduced to one. The companion vessel, Speedwell, proved unseaworthy and was abandoned, leaving the Mayflower to transport the passengers across the Atlantic.

The passengers included Separatists who became known as the Pilgrims, along with other settlers, servants, and crew-related personnel. After roughly ten weeks at sea, the ship reached Cape Cod in November 1620. Before going ashore, several adult male passengers signed the Mayflower Compact, an agreement for organizing their settlement.

The 102 figure counts passengers, not everyone aboard. The ship also carried a crew of approximately 25 to 30 people, bringing the total number aboard to about 130. The Mayflower first anchored near Provincetown before the settlers established Plymouth Colony farther west across Cape Cod Bay.
