Pokémon Snap allows players to photograph 63 of the original Generation I Pokémon.
The Nintendo 64 game does not include every species from the original 151-Pokémon roster. Instead, it presents a curated selection across Pokémon Island’s courses, including beaches, tunnels, rivers, caves, valleys, and a volcano.
Players travel automatically through each course and use items such as Pokémon food, Pester Balls, and the Poké Flute to attract, reveal, or influence Pokémon. Professor Oak evaluates the resulting photographs based on factors including size, pose, and position in the frame.
The number 63 is therefore a game-content count, not a new Pokédex total. Pokémon Snap was designed around photography opportunities, so its selection favors species that can create distinctive scenes and behaviors in the game’s environments.
