How many of the original generation’s Pokémon appear in Pokémon Snap?

The story behind the answer

Pokémon Snap features 63 of the original generation’s 151 Pokémon.

The Nintendo 64 spin-off does not attempt to include every species from the first generation. Instead, it places a curated selection of Pokémon across themed environments on Pokémon Island. Players encounter them while riding the Zero-One, using food, Pester Balls, and a Poké Flute to attract, disturb, awaken, or reveal them.

The game’s focus is observation and photography rather than capturing Pokémon for a party. Professor Oak scores each photograph, considering the Pokémon’s size, position, pose, and the presence of additional Pokémon. Some creatures appear only after the player discovers alternate routes or uses newly obtained items.

The 63-Pokémon total is easy to confuse with the 151 species introduced by Pokémon Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow. It also differs from the game’s seven courses, which are locations rather than Pokémon counts. The selection helped the game showcase recognizable creatures in real-time 3D on the Nintendo 64.
