Pokémon Diamond and Pearl added 107 new Pokémon.
The Nintendo DS games began the fourth generation and introduced the Sinnoh region. The new species ran from Turtwig at National Pokédex number 387 to Arceus at number 493, bringing the total number of species to 493 at the time.
Diamond and Pearl also expanded the series with Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection features, including online trading and battling. The Pokétch, an in-game digital device, offered applications such as a clock, calculator, map, and counter. The Underground provided another area for exploration and multiplayer activities.
The games were first released in Japan on September 28, 2006. Players needed both versions to obtain every Pokémon because some species were version-exclusive. Pokémon Platinum later served as an enhanced third version, while Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl remade the original games for Nintendo Switch.
