How many new Pokémon did Pokémon Diamond and Pearl introduce?

The story behind the answer

Pokémon Diamond and Pearl introduced 107 new Pokémon.

Released for the Nintendo DS, Diamond and Pearl began the fourth generation of the main Pokémon video-game series. Their new species belong primarily to the Sinnoh region, including the legendary Pokémon Dialga and Palkia.

The games also expanded the series with Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection features, new battle mechanics, Pokémon Contests, and a redesigned Pokédex. Players could transfer Pokémon from compatible Game Boy Advance games, although completing the full regional and national collections still required trading or other connectivity.

The figure is sometimes confused with the total number of Pokémon available in the games. It refers specifically to species making their debut in Diamond and Pearl, not every Pokémon that could be encountered, transferred, or obtained. The games were first released in Japan on September 28, 2006.
