Super Street Fighter II added four new characters to the Street Fighter II roster. They were Cammy, Dee Jay, Fei Long, and T. Hawk, expanding the game's playable lineup while retaining the established fighters from earlier editions.
Released in 1993, Super Street Fighter II was the fourth major arcade version of Street Fighter II, following World Warrior, Champion Edition, and Hyper Fighting. Its new characters were designed to broaden the series' fighting styles and international setting. Cammy brought a fast, technical style; Dee Jay used kickboxing and rhythmic attacks; Fei Long represented Hong Kong cinema-inspired martial arts; and T. Hawk provided a powerful grappling-focused approach.
The number is sometimes confused with later updates. Super Street Fighter II Turbo did not add another group of four new regular fighters; instead, it introduced gameplay changes such as Super Combos and adjustable speed, along with the secret character Akuma.
Together, the four newcomers helped make Super Street Fighter II more than a balance update: it was a substantial roster and presentation expansion.
