Three National League sluggers hit at least 40 home runs during the 2015 season.
The players were Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals with 42 home runs, Nolan Arenado of the Colorado Rockies with 42, and Carlos González, also of Colorado, with 40. González reached the threshold late in the season, completing a powerful year for the Rockies.
Harper's 42 home runs accompanied his National League MVP season at age 22. Arenado also finished with 42 and became one of the league's most complete power hitters, combining home-run production with elite defense at third base. González's 40 marked his return to the 40-homer level after several seasons affected by injuries.
The wording can cause confusion because nine Major League players reached 40 or more home runs across both leagues in 2015. The National League alone had three. The American League total was therefore six, led by Chris Davis with 47 and tied with several other major power seasons.
