How many MotoGP World Championships has Casey Stoner won?

The story behind the answer

Casey Stoner won two MotoGP World Championships.

His first title came in 2007 with Ducati, when he won 10 races and became the Italian manufacturer’s first premier-class world champion. Stoner’s speed, especially in qualifying and on corner exits, helped him beat Dani Pedrosa and Valentino Rossi during the 990cc-to-800cc transition era.

Stoner claimed his second championship in 2011 after moving to Repsol Honda. He won 10 races again, including the season opener in Qatar, and secured the title at his home Grand Prix on Phillip Island. He finished that season with 350 points, well clear of Jorge Lorenzo.

The common mix-up is counting race victories or Stoner’s achievements in other classes rather than premier-class championships. Stoner retired from MotoGP after the 2012 season, so his total remains two.
