Thirty-three members were sworn into the United States Semiquincentennial Commission in 2018.
The members took their oaths at Independence Hall in Philadelphia on November 16, 2018. That meeting also served as the commission’s first organizing session for the eight years of planning leading to the 2026 anniversary.
The commission’s membership included 16 private citizens, eight members of Congress, and nine federal officials. Together, those groups totaled 33 members.
The 2018 swearing-in should not be confused with the commission’s creation. Congress established the commission through legislation signed in 2016; the formal swearing-in and organizing meeting occurred two years later.
