How many medal events were held in ski mountaineering at the 2026 Winter Olympics? Three medal events were held.
Ski mountaineering, often called skimo, made its Olympic debut at the 2026 Winter Games in Italy. The program consisted of a men’s sprint, a women’s sprint and a mixed relay. The sprint races were held on February 19, while the mixed relay followed on February 21 at the Stelvio Ski Centre in Bormio.
The number can be confusing because the sport’s Olympic planning included additional individual events for consideration. Those proposed men’s and women’s individual races were not included in the final program. The approved schedule therefore had one men’s event, one women’s event and one mixed-gender team event.
Ski mountaineering combines uphill climbing on skis with fast downhill sections and transitions between skiing and traveling on foot. It had previously appeared at the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics, but Milano-Cortina 2026 was its first appearance at the senior Olympic Games.
