Austria had hosted six major European club finals before the 2026 UEFA Super Cup.
The 2026 match became the seventh major European club final played in Austria. The earlier six consisted of four European Cup or Champions League finals, one Cup Winners’ Cup final and one UEFA Cup final first leg.
All six earlier occasions took place at Vienna’s Ernst-Happel-Stadion. They included European Cup or Champions League finals in 1964, 1987, 1990 and 1995, the 1970 Cup Winners’ Cup final, and the first leg of the 1994 UEFA Cup final.
The 2026 Super Cup changed the geographical focus by being staged in Salzburg. It was Austria’s first UEFA Super Cup and Salzburg’s first major European club final. This count concerns major European club finals, not every international match or domestic final held in Austria.
