How many levels does each Adventure mode stage contain in the original game?

The story behind the answer

Each Adventure mode stage in the original Plants vs. Zombies contains ten levels.

That structure gives the campaign five stages of ten levels each, for 50 levels in the first Adventure-mode run. The regular level numbering therefore runs from level 1 through level 50, with the stage boundaries at levels 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50.

The stages use those ten-level blocks to introduce and test new mechanics. Every stage's fifth level is a mini-game challenge, while the tenth level provides a stage-ending challenge and awards plants through a conveyor-belt setup. The environments change as the player advances: nighttime removes natural sun production, the backyard adds a pool, fog limits visibility, and the roof favors catapult plants.

A frequent mistake is answering five because there are five stages, or twelve because some later modes and replay content make the game feel larger. Mini-Games, Puzzle, and Survival are separate modes unlocked after Adventure mode; they do not add levels to each Adventure stage. Completing the campaign also unlocks a replay with expanded plant choices, but not a different ten-level stage layout.
