Cristiano Ronaldo scored 26 La Liga goals in his first season at Real Madrid.
He joined Real Madrid from Manchester United in summer 2009 for a then-world-record transfer fee. Despite missing league matches through injury and suspension, he scored 26 times in 29 La Liga appearances during the 2009–10 season.
Ronaldo’s league total helped Real Madrid collect 96 points and finish second behind Barcelona. Gonzalo Higuaín was also prolific, while the club scored 102 league goals overall. Ronaldo finished the campaign with 33 goals in all competitions.
A common mix-up is confusing his 26 league goals with his 33-goal total across all competitions. His La Liga tally was also far below the 40 goals he scored in the following 2010–11 league season, when he won his first Pichichi Trophy.
