Whitney Houston won six Grammy Awards during her recording career. Her first came in 1986, when “Saving All My Love for You” earned Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female. She added another Grammy in 1988 for “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)” and won two in 1994 for “I Will Always Love You,” including Record of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female. She also shared a Grammy for the “When You Believe” duet with Mariah Carey in 1999.
The biggest concentration of wins came during Houston’s peak period from the mid-1980s through the 1990s. Her soundtrack work was especially important: The Bodyguard produced her historic 1994 wins, while “When You Believe” came from The Prince of Egypt soundtrack.
A common mix-up is confusing Grammy wins with nominations or with Houston’s much larger totals from the American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and other honors. Six is the standard total for her Grammy wins.
