Messi scored 11 goals in his first season at Paris Saint-Germain.
He joined PSG in August 2021 after Barcelona could not register a new contract because of La Liga’s financial regulations. His debut season, 2021–22, was an adjustment period: he scored 6 goals in Ligue 1 and 5 in the UEFA Champions League, giving him 11 goals across all competitions.
The figure is sometimes confused with his 14 assists that season, or with his 21 total goals for PSG in 2022–23, his second campaign. Messi’s five Champions League goals included his first PSG goal, against Manchester City at the Parc des Princes in September 2021.
Although his scoring total was modest by his Barcelona standards, PSG won the 2021–22 Ligue 1 title. Messi later produced a much stronger second season in Paris before joining Inter Miami in 2023.
