How many fret buttons does the Guitar Hero: On Tour Guitar Grip have? Four.
The Guitar Hero: On Tour Guitar Grip has four fret buttons. They are arranged along the side of the Nintendo DS and are pressed while the player uses the stylus to strum across the touchscreen.
Four buttons were a deliberate adaptation to the DS rather than an error or a missing fifth control. Standard console Guitar Hero guitars commonly use five colored frets, including an orange button, but the DS Grip omits that fifth fret to keep the attachment compact and practical for handheld play.
The controller’s compact design followed extensive experimentation by developer Vicarious Visions. Prototype concepts reportedly tested different layouts, including three, six, and twelve buttons, before the team settled on four. The Grip also includes a strap, allowing the DS to be held sideways like a small guitar neck while notes scroll on the screen.
