How many free snap replays per day did Snapchat offer before paid replays?

The story behind the answer

Snapchat offered one free Snap replay per day before introducing paid replays.

The replay system reflected Snapchat’s original emphasis on fleeting communication. A recipient could replay one Snap for free each day, giving them a second look at a message that might otherwise disappear after its initial viewing. Once that free replay was used, additional replays were not part of the standard free allowance.

In September 2015, Snapchat introduced paid replays through in-app purchases. The change turned a formerly limited free feature into a small monetization opportunity, while preserving the app’s disappearing-message identity. The company later removed the ability to purchase extra replays in April 2016.

The number is often misremembered as two or three because users could replay a Snap after its original viewing, or because the paid-replay period is blended with the earlier free rule. The canonical historical figure for the free allowance was one replay per day, not one replay per Snap or unlimited daily replays.
