How many Frank Lloyd Wright buildings are UNESCO World Heritage Sites? The answer is eight.
UNESCO inscribed The 20th-Century Architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright in 2019. The serial World Heritage property contains eight buildings designed by Wright, distributed across six U.S. states. They were selected as major representatives of his organic architecture and his influence on 20th-century design.
The eight properties include Unity Temple in Oak Park, Frederick C. Robie House in Chicago, Taliesin in Wisconsin, Hollyhock House in Los Angeles, Fallingwater in Pennsylvania, the Herbert and Katherine Jacobs House in Madison, Taliesin West in Arizona, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City. Together, they span roughly five decades of Wright’s career.
The number is sometimes confused with earlier nomination proposals. Before the final inscription, U.S. and preservation officials considered larger groups of ten or eleven Wright properties. UNESCO ultimately approved a revised group of eight on July 7, 2019. The listing counts buildings in one coordinated World Heritage property; it does not mean Wright designed only eight historically important structures.
