Three Fire and Ash clips were prepared for random insertion into The Way of Water’s 2025 theatrical re-release. The promotion added new footage from the third Avatar film after screenings of the 2022 sequel.
The unusual part was that audiences did not see all three clips in one screening. Each showing played only one of the three previews, selected so that different screenings could reveal different footage. Fans who wanted to see every clip therefore had a reason to attend more than once or compare reports online.
The Way of Water returned to theaters on October 3, 2025, for a one-week special engagement ahead of Fire and Ash’s December release. The tactic echoed the franchise’s practice of using theatrical re-releases to showcase new Pandora footage and build anticipation for the next installment.
The wording can cause a small mix-up: three clips existed in total, but a single screening generally showed only one. Thus “three” describes the complete rotating set, not the number shown to every viewer.
