How many Ferrari 250 GTOs were produced?
Answer
36
Answer
36
Only 36 Ferrari 250 GTOs were produced. Ferrari built the cars between 1962 and 1964 as competition-oriented grand tourers intended for FIA Group 3 homologation.
The total includes 33 Series I cars with the original 1962–63 bodywork and three Series II cars built in 1964 with revised styling. Four earlier cars were also rebodied in the later style, but they are not additional cars, so they do not raise the production total.
A common source of confusion is the related 330 GTO. Ferrari built three special cars using 250 GTO chassis fitted with four-litre engines; some accounts include them in a broader total of 39. The standard, accepted production figure for the Ferrari 250 GTO itself remains 36.
The “250” refers approximately to the displacement of each cylinder in its 3.0-litre V12, while “GTO” means Gran Turismo Omologato, or “Grand Touring Homologated.”
