The first season of the television series Twin Peaks had eight episodes.
Season 1 introduced viewers to the town, FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper, the investigation into Laura Palmer’s murder, and the series’ blend of mystery, melodrama, comedy, and supernatural elements. It aired on ABC in 1990, beginning with the feature-length pilot and continuing through seven additional episodes.
The season was notably compact by modern American television standards. Its eight-episode structure helped establish the show’s tightly serialized mystery while giving the creators room to introduce a large ensemble cast and several overlapping storylines.
Later installments used different formats. The second season was much longer, while Twin Peaks: The Return was presented as 18 parts in 2017. Episode counts can therefore be confused if the season or continuation is not specified.
