Disney’s 1953 Peter Pan was the studio’s 14th animated feature, so 13 Disney animated features came before it.
The sequence began with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937, widely recognized as the first feature-length animated film from Walt Disney Productions. It was followed by films including Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, Bambi, Cinderella, and Alice in Wonderland.
Peter Pan arrived during a period when Disney was rebuilding its feature-animation program after the financial pressures of the 1940s. Its story combined the Darling children, Never Land, Captain Hook, Tinker Bell, and musical numbers such as “You Can Fly! You Can Fly! You Can Fly!”
The number can be confused because package films released during the 1940s are included in Disney’s official feature count. Counting only films many viewers consider the best-known classics can produce a different total. Disney classifies Peter Pan as its 14th animated feature.
