Aston Villa became the 31st different club to win the UEFA Cup or Europa League in 2026.
Villa earned that distinction by beating Freiburg 3–0 in the 2025–26 Europa League final in Istanbul. The victory was the club’s third piece of European silverware, following its 1982 European Cup and 1982 UEFA Super Cup triumphs.
Villa was also only the sixth English club to win the UEFA Cup or Europa League. The achievement placed the club among a relatively small group of champions across the competition’s long history, which began as the UEFA Cup before being renamed the Europa League in 2009.
That Europa League title directly qualified Villa for the 2026 UEFA Super Cup. It faced Paris Saint-Germain, the Champions League winner, but lost 2–1 in Salzburg. The Super Cup result did not change Villa’s status as the 31st different winner of the second-tier European competition.
