How many days is the 2026 Open Championship scheduled to run?

The story behind the answer

The 2026 Open Championship is scheduled to run for four days, from 16–19 July 2026. The tournament will be played at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England, and is officially the 154th Open Championship.

Like other modern Open Championships, the competition is scheduled over four stroke-play rounds, with one round played on each of four consecutive days. Players generally complete 18 holes per day, although weather, darkness, or exceptional delays can sometimes alter the timetable.

Royal Birkdale is returning to the Open rota for the first time since 2017. That 2017 edition was won by Jordan Spieth, who finished three strokes ahead of Matt Kuchar. The 2026 event will be Royal Birkdale’s 11th Open Championship.

A common mix-up is confusing the four competition days with the wider event period. Practice, qualifying, and ceremonial activities may begin earlier, but the scheduled championship itself runs from Thursday through Sunday.
