How many days are in the Mayan Haab calendar? The answer is 365 days.
The Haabʼ was the Maya solar calendar, organized into 18 named months of 20 days each, producing 360 days. It then added a short five-day period called Wayebʼ, bringing the total to 365 days. Unlike the 260-day Tzolkʼin, the Haabʼ tracked a cycle close to the seasonal year.
The five Wayebʼ days were regarded as an especially dangerous or unlucky interval. Ritual precautions were associated with this period because it fell outside the regular sequence of named months. The Haabʼ did not use a leap day, so it gradually shifted relative to the true tropical year.
A common mix-up is confusing the Haabʼ with the Maya Long Count. The Long Count used a modified vigesimal place-value system, including a 360-day unit called a tun, but the Haabʼ itself was the 365-day civil calendar. Haabʼ dates were often combined with Tzolkʼin dates in the Calendar Round.
